The International airports in Baltimore and Atlanta serve as the main hubs for military personnel deploying and returning home from overseas. Depending on whether they are coming or going, these airports can be very somber or exciting places. Nowhere is this more evident than at BWI's baggage claim 14. If you were to pull up a chair and have a seat at this carousel, you would see a sea of green duffle bags heavier than some 10 year-olds, and weary camo print travelers perking up from jet lag, searching for their uniquely decorated duffle bags. Lastly, you would see the first hugs and kisses after long family separations.
For some service members though, BWI is not home...it's just one stop closer to their final destination. However, that doesn't mean there isn't anyone to welcome them because the USO is also conveniently located at baggage claim 14.
Thank you Ms. Deborah Watson, USO Volunteer Coordinator at BWI Airport and safe travels to LTC Turner as he embarks on a 1 year tour in Tanzania.
